A serviceable enough children's film but it's just crammed with rehashed, cliched old ideas and obvious sight gags and decorated with over-used and terribly dated CGI. Why anyone over the age of twelve should concern themselves with such juvenile escapism is extremely puzzling to me. |

A great start to a spectacular series: the first Harry Potter film sets the tone for the films to come. It's full of comedy, energy, amazing visuals, and some fun and familiar characters. One of the series' most magical and best entries. |

So very faithful to the book and a great starting point for the film series. Gets everything right that an introduction film should. It's entertaining enough, but the kid friendly nature gives no feeling of danger and there is a slight absence in emotion. All that aside, it's still full of good fun and whimsy. |

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone review |
|
As indicated in my review of Deathly Hallows: Part 1, I have never read the books, not even a huge fan of the franchise. I only had time to view the 1st of the successful franchise just recently. The character development/plot was decent; score was nothing special, visual effects were realistic but the pace of the film seems to drag in the middle. It was fascinating to see the origin story of Harry Potter, even the formation of his best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Too many background characters involved and lacking of action made this film plain. If only the triumvirate personalities were well built-up since this was the beginning for one of the most popular and successful franchises on screen. A fun beginning to what’s to come, still has some humor and entertaining se... |

Good Adaptation |
|
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is one of the best adaptation films I've ever seen.
The story for The Sorcerer's Stone is very accurate to the book. They have some of the smallest details shown on screen, sharing the magic of The Sorcerer's Stone that the book showed through the movie. There was a few details left out of the movie, but I know that's because of time.
The characters in the movie are very accurate. The way the characters interact with each other makes the movies very realistic, and the dialog is very close to the dialog in the book. I loved the way the characters looked on screen. They just stood out, as if they had been taken directly from the pages and thrown onto the screen.
Overall, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a great adaptation film. Even if ... |
