Plot Outline:

This retelling of the classic vampire story is based on the more romantic stage play, but the story remains essentially the same as the original 1931 film. The story begins as Count Dracula is being transported to England to take up residence in an old, abandoned castle on property adjacent to an insane asylum. Upon his arrival, Dracula is instantly drawn to Lucy Seward , (the daughter of the doctor in charge of the asylum), and her friend, MIna Van Helsing (daughter of Abraham Van Helsing, a noted expert on occult phenomena such as werewolves and vampires). The story involves Dracula's attempt to make both of these women immortal wives, and Van Helsing's attempts to thwarts his plans.

Rather unfairly slated by critics, I actually think this is one of the better tellings of the count's story. Sticking quite closely to the literary source and with a strong supporting cast of thesps it's much better than Coppolla's irritatingly self absorbed and affected vanity project.

Dracula, it seems, is in search of new blood... and a new immortal bride to continue his lineage. He is immediately drawn to Luct Seward, the daughter of the doctor who runs the asylum, and her friend, Mina Van Helsing, daughter of Abraham Van Helsing. Most of the film involves the seduction of both of these women, and Van Helsing's attempt to identify the predator and thwart his plans.

The film is at its best when Dracula is on the prowl in the stylish, moody setting. The spe...
