A group of silly teenagers tripping out at night discover an extraordinary creature which comes down from above. Only later that night they realize that several more of that creature's kind will come down on their block.
***
What kept me watching this movie was that the alien "invasion" remained a mystery until the group of teenagers figured it out. The action and thrill are sure to be enjoyed by many. But it is really the interesting story that holds the audience.
If you'll watch this movie, make sure you will see it from start to finish. It would appear trash if you only see the early parts. |

I saw some of the reviews and thought: well let's go and see this funny, sci-fi comedy..... I got bored the first five minutes... What funny?? the next five minutes I got more bored and even irritated. Slow, not funny at all. E.T. was more fun and that was a verry long time ago. So sorry guys, no points, can not go below 0! |

I love movies that provide a different take on genre formula. The best part of this one is it's ability to be thrilling, fun and purely entertaining. |

"Attack The Block" by Yojimbo |
|
When aliens invade a council estate in South London, a gang of local teenagers band together to defend their tower block. The idea behind this film has a lot of comic potential and the fact that Attack The Block was written and directed by Joe Cornish from cult TV skit show The Adam & Joe show meant I was looking forward to it immensely. It has that low-budget-but-in-a-cool-way sort of feel and some knowing direction and nice visual flourishes added to the anticipation but it has one MASSIVE flaw. It's just not funny enough. Nick Frost's brief appearances raised a couple of smiles but as a whole the film takes itself WAY too seriously. The alleged comedy relies on little more than ghetto speak and weed references leaving the story feeling like just another generic monster movie with the "... |

Brit Scifi with a scrappy band of teenage hoodlums |
|
Attack the block is a comedy/horror/thriller action film about a gang of youths in South London who rob a helpless woman on her way home. A sudden explosion and something falling from the sky, allow the woman to escape. When the gang's leader, 15 year old Moses (John Boyega) checks what happened he is attacked by an extraterrestrial creature. He and his band of loyal followers slay the alien for attacking him and takes the body with them hoping to make a few pounds out of the strange creature. From there, things get really ugly when Moses and friends find their block under attack from these fuzzy ultra black extraterrestrials with neon blue razor sharp teeth.
~~Warning: Spoiler~~
There is lots of swearing and drugs references. Towards the end Moses blows up the aliens with an oven ... |
