Disappointing western pastiche/homage from Australia. Leone’s films spring to mind but not in terms of quality. Just in case you’re in any doubt as to its antecedents, a faux Morricone soundtrack pounds out a reminder. The lack of incidental dialogue and detail cannot be attributed to the low budget, couple this with dodgy acting plus zero character development. and this becomes as welcome as a wombat at a wedding, mate.

"Red Hill" by Yojimbo

A police officer from the big city transfers to a small backwater town in search of a stress-free life for his pregnant wife, not counting on the escape of a convicted killer with a grudge.Red Hill is a modern western/revenge thriller hybrid from Australia. Shot like First Blood told from the perspective of the townspeople rather than John Rambo, the story will win no awards for originality, but the no-nonsense approach and unusual Outback setting mark it out from the crowd. The fact that the escaped convict does not utter a word until the very end of the film sounds gimmicky, but it actually works quite well and gives the character an enigmatic charisma not unlike that of Rutger Hauer in The Hitcher. Ryan Kwanten also makes a watchable everyman hero and the build up is quite tense and ef...

"Red Hill" By Nosferatu

I usually don't like Westerns but I enjoyed this one! It's not just another Western with a crazy guy wasting bullets, shooting at everything that moves. It has a well conceived history of revenge in the background and the characters are well developed.

"Red Hill" looks like a Western version of Assault on Precinct 13 but instead of a dozen men attacking a police station, there's a single man attacking a town taking his revenge on a dozen men.

There aren't many slow moments in "Red Hill", but even during those moments, there's anything might happen or simply adding more info to the storyline. One thing that I like to see in every movie (and was present in this one), is the bad guy is actually capable of missing the targets as a human being and the main character gets a lot of beating...
