PIXAR did it again. They did a great job with this movie.
Being PIXAR though, I will hld this movie to a higher standard.
How it compares to other PIXAR movies;
It was fun and funny. The two things it did miss was cute and smart, which for me, are the two key ingredients in PIXAR movies. Ignore the fact that it is harder to get in touch with cars; PIXAR just didn't "drive" home the characters for me. They were a little flat and unimaginative. |

Rookie Lightning McQueen is tied with retiring veteran Strip "The King" Weathers and Chick Hicks. Voice artists were decent but its charm is its story. Soundtrack was alright and screenplay decent. Cars is not one of the best from Pixar, it however delivers the good with regard to sportsmanship, friendship and maturation. |

Cars, while a competent and often very charming family film, is the least original and inspiring of the Pixar canon. Perhaps because vehicles can't quite possess the nostalgic and lovable qualities of, say, childhood toys, the mood of Cars feels more in line with the later entries into the Shrek franchise and less representative of Pixar's usual excellence. That isn't to say that the movie isn't action-packed or visually entertaining; it just has no magic going for it. |

A Dad's Review |
|
My opinion of this movie has changed a lot since becoming a dad. Here's what I wrote 5 years ago:
Theres a lot of flash and some impressive anthropomorphism. But the "outsider learns the importance of community" has been done before better. That said, this is probably at the bottom of the Pixar films, while still better than almost every other computer animated film.
But now I know what all parents of little boys know: that this is the most engaging PIXAR movie for them. My boys don't quite get Wall E or UP. But they love Cars, and I don't even care if it is shameless merchandising (actually the toys are pretty high quality and hold up to abuse, but that's another review) I have to respect this movie because it was as if John Lasseter was specifically crafting a movie that boys woul... |

Almost wins the checkered flag |
|
"Lightning McQueen" (voiced by Owen Wilson) is an arrogant, cocky rookie racecar who thinks he can win the coveted "Piston Cup" without help. He even has fired three crew cheifs, and ignored advice from "The King" (voiced by racing legend Richard Petty).
During the championship race, "McQueen", "The King" and top rival "Chick Hicks" (voiced by Michael Keaton) finish the race in a three-way tie, thanks to "McQueen" sticking out his tongue (yes, the cars have eyes, teeth and tongues). After looking at the finish at many angles to determine a winner, and discovering the tie, a tie-breaker is ordered to take place in Los Angeles, California.
On the way to California, "McQueen" is separated with his tractor trailer truck, "Mack" (voiced by John Ratzenberger), and ends up in the rundown... |

Funny enough and very creative |
|
I finally saw this movie. I hadn't been really looking to watch, but it was on so I decided to give a test drive. I ended up really enjoying it. Much of the comedy is for all ages but there are a few references and things I don't think kids would get.
I was amazed at how well they tied in "cars" to everyday life. One of these scenes that I really enjoyed was when they went "Tractor Tipping" instead of cow tipping. I thought the whole scene was done creatively and it was a lot of fun to watch.
Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub and Larry The Cable Guy all did great jobs doing the voices of the various cars. Tony Shalhoub's accent was a riot.
Is this movie as good as Ice Age or Finding Nemo, probably not. But it is entertaining and better than a lot of the computer animated... |
