The tone is suspenseful and it doesn't take shortcuts. John Travolta is good as the resourceful protagonist who stumbles onto a conspiracy that's way over his head. Nancy Allen was a little annoying. John Lithgow is appropriately creepy. For each good scare or intriguing plot development, it does drag in sections.

Blow Out review

Interesting premise but unfortunately was not presented in a more entertaining manner. Jack Terry (Travolta) is a sound-man who saves the life of Sally (Allen). His life becomes complicated after discovering the governor (and a presidential hopeful) had died in the "accident." Technically and plot-wise, this was brilliant. Had some nice quotes like: "No one wants to know about conspiracy any more!" from Jack and "Ya know, the only trouble I ever got into was when I was TOO careful!" from Sally. Acting was sincere though the main female lead was not that interesting. Soundtrack was likewise didn't have enough impact for certain scenes which does look dated. Overall feel of the picture was like a television show than a movie. Themes of voyeurism, malicious political agenda/power, …
