Original, and above all, bizarre, "Being John Malkovich" is as deep as it is unusual.

A brilliantly self-aware film that manages to take shots at celebrity ego, psychological delusion, and obsession. It's also cleverly funny and just weird enough to be memorable and original.

JOHN MALKOVICH

Part 1:

Being John Malkovich was an American dramedy fantasy which opened in October 1999 just as I was retiring after a 50 year student and employment life, a career of 32 years as a teacher, and another 18 as a student. In October 1999 I was settling into a little town by the sea, and beginning the recreation of myself as a writer and author, poet and publisher, online blogger and journalist, editor and researcher, reader and scholar. I did not see the film, however, until sometime in the first decade after my retirement from FT, PT and casual-paid jobs. I have now enjoyed a full retirement from 2006 to 2015.

Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman never seem to shy away from going weird but amazing.

The story is about a skillful puppeteer finds the perfect puppet when he discovers a portal in his new office on a "half" floor. It leads him literally into the brain of John Malkovich. He and his discoverer try make a living off of others interests while his wife becomes jealous.

Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze are the two people that can take a weird and strange story and make it amazingly well made and as a viewer you some how correct to it with no reason to it. I don't think I ever came across a bad movie from these genius of directing and writing and Being John Malkovich is another great film from them, they never disappoint me.

The one thing that I loved about this movie is how self aware …

An out of work puppeteer finds a filing job in the 7 1/2th floor of an office building where he finds a doorway into the mind of John Malkovich in which he decides to squat in order to win the affection of a co-worker. Being John Malkovich is just strange; not Donnie Darko or Eternal Sunshine strange. Waaaay past that! It's one of those films that you're either going to love or hate because it's so "out there" it's purely a subjective matter of taste. I usually find odd ball films that are deliberately "wacky" such as this terminally irritating (yes, I'm looking at you, Anderson) but Being John Malkovich is so likeably weird and genuinely amusing I couldn't help but love it. John Malkovich shows himself to be a real sport (as does Charlie Sheen and Brad Pitt in cameos) and although I …
