A brilliantly self-aware film that manages to take shots at celebrity ego, psychological delusion, and obsession. It's also cleverly funny and just weird enough to be memorable and original. |

I really enjoyed this absurdly funny comedy. John Cusack and Cameron Diaz were wonderful. A great film, if you like films like "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Adaptation." |

Weird. Strange. Awful. It had potential, but I never got connected to the story. I am a fan of John Malkovich and believe that he is a very gifted actor. You would think that I would love this film..... I did not. My expectation were high. It was defiantly a fantasy film but it was missing heart, emotion, and comedy. |

"Being John Malkovich" by Yojimbo |
|
An out of work puppeteer finds an accounting job in the 7 1/2th floor of an office building where he finds a doorway into the mind of John Malkovich in which he decides to squat in order to win the affection of a co-worker. Being John Malkovich is just strange; not Donnie Darko or Eternal Sunshine strange. Waaaay past that! It's one of those films that you're either going to love or hate because it's so "out there" it's purely a subjective matter of taste. I usually find odd ball films that are deliberately "wacky" such as this terminally irritating (yes, I'm looking at you, Anderson) but Being John Malkovich is so likeably weird and genuinely amusing I couldn't help but love it. John Malkovich shows himself to be a real sport (as does Charlie Sheen and Brad Pitt in cameos) and although I... |

Geppetto Takes A Day Off |
|
This film in my opinion can be attributed to two things: That awkward moment, often in every person's life, where your mind spins itself out to creative bliss so far that there are no strings attached to anything that is of reality. And secondly, that quick epiphonous jab that makes you wonder... "Wow people would go crazy if I could find a way to explain this new idea to them..." Such is the euphoric engine of this film. As if Kaufman and Jonze had turned the originality valve on all the way just to see the devastating results, this film definitely uncanny and worth the watch.
What Crum Dug! - As with all Kaufman screenplays, always during the viewing do you get this strange but pleasant sense of déjà vu that I think is mysterious and enlightening in and of itself...
