Yikes. It seems like someone wanted to make Fame for a new generation yet still copy the original close enough to please fans who liked the original. As a result, the first hour is mostly performances featuring characters you don't really know yet, the second hour is stories devoted to characters you should know by now, and the result is a movie that is horribly edited. Hilariously, the credits at the end start by showing the actors dance with their names so we know who they are, but I spent them wondering 'who was that?' Grammer, Mullaly, Neuwirth, and Dutton are cast as the teachers - who don't really do anything and are utterly wasted - especially Grammer, who I guess was just told to give disapproving looks. Just watch the original.

The original fame was kind of gritty and depressing and this fame pretends to be gritty . . . overall the movie suffered a lot from this. It was more like a Step Up movie or something like that than FAME. That being said all the musical numbers were quite good. The plot pretty much didn't exist and where it did it was lacking.
