Plot Outline:
|
Hopeless romantic Tom is thrown for a loop when his girlfriend Summer announces that love doesn't exist and dumps him. Going over the 500 days they shared together, Tom tries to figure out what went wrong and in doing so, rediscovers true passion.

Fun to watch even though it is a story of a heart broken. Clear story even though presented non-linear. And all good and charm for both actors Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon- Levitt! ♥ |

Realistic and efficient acting by the leads. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the sensitive, ideal architect named Tom Hansen and the realist Summer Finn played by Zooey Deschanel were just sensational. The soundtrack was amusing and the cinematography impressive. Had a few dull scenes just to make it day 500 and the premise was good. The humor and screenplay was honest and coming-of-age topic was not rehashed. (500) Days of Summer hits hard when it comes to romantic comedies but is appealing and believable. |

This movie is an anomaly. (500) Days of Summer is coming at a time when we are all tired of romantic comedy's that are promising to be something new and exciting. This movie was marketed as a romantic comedy which was new and exciting. But that's really the only way to describe this little gem of a movie. Sure it's not without a flaws, but it's difficult to find a romantic comedy(or a movie for that matter) with such a beautiful sense of melancholy, flashes of laugh out loud comedy and a emotional ride from highs to lows which actually effect the viewer.

A Stylish, Realistic Charmer* |

This film floated into my life at just the right time.
Movies are magic like that. You could be going through a certain something and suddenly find yourself viewing a story strikingly similar to the story you're currently living.. And you feel that spark that has you cackling at certain scenes until you're clapping, and/or tearing up at other moments (as much as you try to hide it.)
Of course, as "touched" as I was by it, I am aware that this type of connection had to be felt by a countless amount of folks when THEY first saw it.
For me it was spot on.
My sappiness aside, this is a cleverly crafted film. Everything including the editing, soundtrack (You just can't go wrong with The Smiths) color scheme, wardrobe, set design - every detail was well thought out and contributed... |

I just saw this movie for the second time. It's adorable. It's a quirky indie romantic comedy with uber-charming characters. There are some twists--it's not quite just a boy-meets-girl movie. Deschanel and JGL are so endearing, I can't even explain it. I'm so in love with him, and I'm a little lez for her, too. Or maybe just her clothes and her hair.
This movie is very easy to identify with. If you've ever been in love, fallen out of love, been unhappy in a relationship, or dwelled over someone like a psycho (I have experienced all of these things), then you'll find yourself saying "Yes, exactly!" Which, in my opinion, is all any director can hope to make his audience say.
