Plot Outline:
|
The year is 2056, after a world-wide epidemic of organ failure, the GeneCo company forms and offers organ transplants. If someone cannot pay their bill, repo men come to claim the tissue back. In this dangerous world, a young girl seeks to find a cure for her own illness and the mystery behind her family and it all leads back to GeneCo. -- Chris Kavan

You can't just purposely make a movie off beat from everything else and say right from the beginning that it is a 'cult' film. Your movie has to earn that status by not only being unique, but also offering something of value to the viewer in a special way. This movie opts to say: "I'm a cult film. You will enjoy me, dammit!", right out of the gate swinging. And all those swings miss horribly. It's trying to feed off the fumes of the never ending 'Rocky Horror' fandom, but replace the camp with a serious tone and the jokes with gore. The end result is a dull opera that offers nothing but... well, nothing. |

I am not a big fan of musicals and I definitely wasnt looking forward to this. But once I watched it, my whole view of musicals changed. this isnt just an opera, its a ROCK OPERA! Yeah, the songs are amazing, the story is kinda hard to follow but totally worth it, great cast hell even Paris Hilton was...okay. When a movie can make Paris Hilton look moderatley okay, its one hell of a movie. |

REPO: The Genetic Opera!
I had seen an ad for this movie in my favourite occult peroidical, The Fortean Times (shameless advertising!) and thought, hey, this looks pretty cool. So, a month or so later, I saw it for rent at my local video rental store. I got it out and watched it that night, because I'm a sad loner.
Now, I'm not a man for musicals. The second the singing started, I was screaming 'WHAT THE HELL!!!? AAAAARRRRRGGGH!!!' and other certain profanities. Seriously, what was that!? It was weird, Gothic madness with a guy who looked eerily like Ewan McGregor in a fright wig! Anthony Head was scaring me as he tore open people to reclaim their organs, I was horrified and as PARIS ****ING HILTON came on screen, I was grotesquerised!
