A powerful noir that keeps you guessing with red herring clues and grotesque characters (even the supporting characters are memorable and weird.) One of the classics of the detective genre.

This earlier version of The Maltese Falcon (NOT the one starring Bogart) is included on the special edition. I have to say, the story is pretty much the same (other than the coda, which was unnecessary). It's not as polished, but is still a fine story with decent acting. The lack of background music made for much uncomfortable silence, however.
