Plot: Costa-Gavras chronicles the overthrow of the democratic government in Greece. When a liberal politician is murdered in an attack during a peace demonstration, the right wing established figures in the military and the police try and hide not only their parts in it, but try to cover up the murder as well. Like "The Battle of Algiers" just a few years earlier, the immensely influential and astounding "Z" resonates so deeply because what it portrays and conveys is so universal. These events could occur anywhere, in any era, to any one of us who dares to defy the powers that be.

The single greatest political thriller of all time comes in the form of a pop-culture realisation of the assassination of a relatively obscure Greek politician. An absurd statement, certainly, but a sincere one nonetheless.

You have to watch closely to follow the plot of this political thriller, which moves very quickly, but the documentary style of story-telling is engrossing and thrilling.
