Our Daily Free Stream: David Lynch - Lost Highway. Zum Geburtstag von Patricia Arquette! - Als Lost Highway im Kino lief gingen wir alle mehrmals rein, um anschliessend zu diskutieren, was wir gerade gesehen hatten. Es gab die Fraktion, die den Film so verstand, während eine andere dagegen hielt. Heute denke ich, dass wir damals alle grundlegend falsch lagen: Es gibt nichts zu verstehen. Lost Highway ist ein kalter Film, eine Lektion in Sachen Technik, eine Stilübung - aber unter der Oberfläche wartet nichts. David Lynch hat Lost Highway mit viel Verachtung für sein Publikum konzipiert. Das soll nicht heissen, Lost Highway sei uninteressant. It's very difficult to write a synopsis of Lost Highway, loaded as it is with an array of symbolism that's impossible to represent as a coherent plot summary without spoilers, so I won't even try! Suffice to say, it's archetypal David Lynch. It contains his usual array of striking images, inventive sound design and homage to classic movie genres, in this case Film Noir with a dash of horror. Patricia Arquette looks every inch the femme fatale of the golden age and the film hinges on her dual portrayal of innocent victim of jealous violence and heartless vamp. Bill Pullman perhaps lacks the intensity and charisma to pull off Lynch's vision, but any shortfall in his performance is made up for by his skills behind the camera. In this raters opinion, a movie that makes you think, react, focus, have interpretations (2001: A Space Odyssey, Mulholland Drive, Vertigo, Persona, Inception, Tree of Life, The Fountain just to name a few) are the usual formulas of a great or cult movie. One of the most confusing and well symbolized neo-noir thrillers this reviewer has witnessed. Well paced rarely seen from from the director. The bizarre movie is about saxophonist Fred Madison (Bill Pullman), his wife Renee (Patricia Arquette), a mystery man (Robert Blake), an auto mechanic Pete Dayton (Balthazar Getty) and a gangster Mr. Eddy (Robert Loggia). Soundtrack and direction were fabulous as always. Performances wasn't much demanding based on the roles since its real focus is on the plot. As in every Lynch flick, it has …
