The Kid (1921) review

Daniel Corleone - wrote on 11/12/2012

One can never be disappointed watching Charlie Chaplin. His humorous gestures alone are worth seeing. This was a refreshing change which mixes humor and drama. A woman (Edna Purviance) searches for her child who suddenly becomes missing. The Little Tramp (Charlie Chaplin) takes care of the child as if it were his own son. One of the earliest dramedies of its time, it shows the dexterity in Chaplin's arsenal to combine elements of comedy and drama. The picture shows a lot of emotion coupled with earnest performances and well picked settings. However, this was not as entertaining compared to his masterpieces. The Kid however shows its heart and provides a few laughable moments along the way. Much better than current drama-comedies with big name hollywood stars.
