History of the World: Part I review

Daniel Corleone - wrote on 11/04/2012

Much like Three Ages (from Buster Keaton) but with more lavish costumes and set pieces. Felt most of the jokes were forced instead of being it natural. There were a few childish jokes mixed with crude humor. If only Brooks hadn't involved himself too much and focused on the humor rather than the "musicals." Score was diverse and performances silly and focused. On a positive note, Orson Welles was a splendid addition to narrate. The "Jesus...yes" scene and Comicus (Brooks again) performance in front of the Emperor were a riot. This critic however prefers Robin Hood Men in Tights and Blazing Saddles. History of the World Part 1 is still a descent spoof (2001 Space Odyssey in the beginning and Star Wars in the end) that will make you smile. "It's good to be the King!."
