Has its moments, but overall The Giver just never quite comes together. Apparently Jeff Bridges considered this kind of a passion project and worked for years to bring this to the big screen. It's too bad the end result is a such a mediocre letdown. But, hey, Taylor Swift has a cameo, so there's that.

The plot, solid and earnest acting of Bridges/Streep, music and editing were the highlights of the film. Dull leads, realism (yes baby Gabe has been thru a lot didn't he and yet survives with Jonas) and too hopeful ending were the negatives. Screenplay was good but overall a fair futuristic drama that touches on striving for a perfect society, idealism, removing emotions, race, religion and sometimes common-sense in the movie flow.

Given the premise for the story there really aren't any twists or turns to help keep your interest. Stuck in a controlled environment world of reality, Jonas begins to realize what he's been missing. You can guess what happens from there if you've watched any dystopia/utopian movies. I found out it was based on a novel, but felt more like a short story without a lot of depth to the characters. Well directed and acted and no glaring holes. Just an underlying current of not having any concerns (for me as an audience member) about the characters.

Another movie that has been in the making for while. Okay let me just start of with the good because I have a lot of nick picks about this film. The acting from Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and the other cast did great job in there roles and the movie at times is in black and white and I like the black and white because am a sucker for black and white, I know it's strange but it's true. Now for the problems and they is a lot. The movie is not very remediable, and the movie kind of drags at parts and some people are not going to like this movie, maybe they do or maybe they don't, who knows.
