Frances Ha..and such

This is one of those rare movies that actually captures what it's really like to be a person. Sometimes it's awkward and uncomfortable, sometimes it's lonely, sometimes everything is temporarily perfect, but in the end, nothing stays. Oh and the dialogue was great, it's going to be terribly dated in a few years, but for some reason that just adds to its charm. Frances is a character that you can get sick of and love at the same time because I think a lot of people can relate to how she acts and how she thinks. From the beginning sequences between her and Sophie to that little speech she made at the dinner party about making eye contact with your one person and dimensions invisible to everyone else and such, this movie should be able to strike a chord with anyone who has ever had a …

'Frances Ha' is the best surprise of 2013. It tells the story of Frances, a 27-year-old New Yorker who still hasn't got her life figured out. That's the simple beauty of this film. As with a few other movies this year, here we are presented with a believable authenticity in the writing, characters, and situations. Every minute seems as if it could happen in real life. Frances herself is the epitome of the young adult who still attains that young and free lifestyle. Greta Gerwig is immensely likable in the lead role (which she also co-wrote). I wanted her to succeed in her everyday life obstacles that skewer the path between her dreams and her future. The ways in which she overcomes these ordeals is where the arresting charm of the film lies. The ending gives me a smile and …

Frances Ha is indie movie-heaven. Noah Baumbach's film is one of the most likable and comforting movie experiences I've had all year. Beautifully written by Baumbach and star Greta Gerwig, the film offers plenty of laughs, incredibly entertaining characters, and dialogue that sparks with wit and quirkiness which is just plain enjoyable. Gerwig really impressed me. She is pretty damn phenomenal as Frances. Her high-energy and enthusiastic performance immediately catches your attention and carries you through the brisk 86 minute duration.
Here is an engaging, heartfelt, and hilarious film that completely knocks out the majority of big-budget studio comedies. It's a shame that the Academy Awards overlook independent gems like Frances Ha. It's a real damn shame.

Frances Ha (2013) R To say that Frances (Greta Gerwig) is a free spirit would be an understatement. She lives in New York but doesn’t have an apartment, she’s a dancer but doesn’t get paid for it, and her best friend hasn’t spoken to her in weeks. Now, Frances decides that its time for a change. Hope New York City is ready for what Frances has in mind. Greta Gerwig is cute and appealing as Frances, going through life not knowing exactly where she's headed and how she will get there. Mickey Sumner, who plays Sophie, Frances best friend, does a clever job of being the slightly saner of the two. My biggest problem with this film is Frances, while cute, is annoying as hell.
