"Haywire" doesn't slice very deep, but you have to admire Steven Soderbergh's determination to take a more unconventional approach to this star-studded throwback thriller.

A freelance black ops special agent is betrayed during a mission in Dublin. Now she has to elude international pursuit, make sure her family is safe and exact revenge on the people responsible. I can't believe this women has taken out Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas.

I wanted to see this film because I was intrigued by how much audiences panned it (40% user rating on RT). After finally seeing it, I'm very shocked by its negative reception. I personally think there's a lot of fun to be had with this film, and Soderbergh's touch is evident throughout. The plot is a bit heavy at times, but the action, direction, cast, and acting are all solid. Gina Carano's lack of acting experience is apparent in many scenes, but she carries the film extremely well nonetheless. A solid, entertaining, thriller.

Betrayed in a mission, a woman black ops special agent Mallory Kane (Gina Carano), left with no choice but to protect her family and to make revenge on people she used to work with. *** With a powerhouse cast composing of Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum and Michael Fassbender, this movie seemed to disappoint on every aspect. A number of good actors wasted by failed characterizations. The story was a weak material. And even the editing was not good at all.

A great showcase for Gina Carano to show off her butt-kicking skills, but that's really all you get. The story is all over the place and none of the other actors (including the great Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum and Michael Douglas) make much of an impact. But if you want action, this will provide what you need.

I had hopes of enjoying a good movie.... The action i it is o.k. but I had a hard time to follow the storyline. Not my kind of movie. Could have been so much better. Even the end is weak, funny but weak.

An all star cast doesn't mean a good film as in this case. Poor character development, annoying soundtrack at times and plot/storyline was all over the place. Even some of the action sequences felt choreographed. Feels like a mixture of Traffic, Wanted, Oceans 11 (but with the lack of impact compared to the aforementioned) and even Apocalypse Now in the near conclusion without a clear-cut story. This reviewer admires the skilled director and his style, but one has to prefer substance over fantastic imagery and fight scenes. Haywire left this critic disappointed from beginning to end. Can't even stand the phony accent of Banderas here and how underutilized Michael Douglas and Ewan McGregor were in this action thriller.

This is a different take on the usual spy/thriller genre that has been done to death. It has a more artistic approach to the presentation and the story is less complicated and more straight to the point. Nothing but an absolute sense of realism from every area, especially the well shot fight scenes that pack a punch. A refreshing break from the stupid, loud, cliched and disorienting action movies that pollute mainstream cinema.
