An amazing story, excentuated by the talents of the actors. Johnny Depp was shockingly brilliant. I mean who knew the guy could sing??? Helena Bonham Carter's performance has been largely underappreciated. There are so many great performances. The plot is thick with surprise, and the characters and their motives are so well developed. It was a dark and depressing story, brightened by the music and occasional humor.

A creative musical, with a unique story, but it's ultimately average compared to the rest. The songs were okay, but not memorable and the whole thing just has too much Tim Burton in it.

Despite the more-recent Burton projects, Sweeney Todd is a terrific success. Depp helms the title role, as a vengeful barber, who has been wrongfully imprisoned and lost everything, due to the evil Judge Tarpin, played excellently by Alan Rickman. The story is good, as well as the script, cinematography, music, and direction. Performances are excellent, with an under-appreciated one from Timothy Spall. Over-all this is one of the best films of 2007, as well as the best Burton/Depp collaboration to date. Depp is deservingly going to be a strong candidate for Best Actor this year, thanks to this dark comedy/musical/tragedy!

obviously if I'd read anything about this movie I'd have known about all the blood and gore, but I didn't so I was surprised. worth seeing for Johnny Depp's work and the familiar high quality Burton stylings. I also wasn't impressed with the score but thought the actors did their best in it. a minor point of enjoyment: seeing the woman who played the meat pie baker (Carter?) look exactly as she did in parts of Fight Club. Finally, I think the tradegy of it all could have played up more at the end--it had great tragic potential--this would have allowed the movie to illicit a more powerful response from the audience. I don't know if this really would have worked but I sure noticed the posibility.

A dark and humourous critique of Capitalism: humanity itself figures as a meatpie to be consumed. The setting is a 19th century London shrouded in the filth and darkness of its factories, but the ideology of Todd is contemporary: there are only two kinds of people in the whole human race -- one kind stays in its "proper place," the other has its foot on our throats. As one watches the film, a subversive re-evaluation of Pirates emerges. "Take all you can! Give nothing back!" ARRRR!

This entirely new kind of film made me gaze in wonder. Tonight I'm seeing it for the fourth time and i'm still not sick of it! I bought the soundtrack ad saw the musical. Mabye I got a little too exited when i found out my favourite director was making my favourite musical. Yeah the songs have been changed to suit the movie but who cares. Johnny Depp sins great. It sounds like him but singing. Looking at the cast Butron seemed to choose actors over singers and this move has really paid off. The darkness contrasting with a few really light scenes makes the audience jump back to avoid all the bloodshed. but who doesnt love a nice fair spill of blood...

One of my favorite films of 2007. Very engaging and well acted. Obviously Depp is a stand out actor in this film but Carter and Cohen also stood out in their performances. The singing was great, and I did truly feel as though I was watching an actual musical. I even bought the soundtrack after my first viewing and have seen it 2 more times. I liked that it wasn't a song and dance musical, these aren't toe-tapping numbers. But musically and melodically these songs are great and truly give us a glimpse into the minds of these damaged characters. It's just a film that reminds me why I like movies so much.

Wow, what a bloody movie. Blood, blood everywhere. But that didn't stop it from being the best movie I've seen in a while. Yeah, it was gorey, but it also had a great story and great performances by all the actors. It also helps that it was directed by Tim Burton who is, in my opinion, the best director. He alway lets you know how the character is feeling, just by the things that surround them.

Fantastic! This is not Burton's best (Ed Wood), but it's close. Johnny Depp gave the performance of his career and he should win every acting award out there. I had to downgrade it a bit, because I didn't like all of the music number.
