Daniel Miller (Brooks) finds himself in Judgment City after he is hit by a car. While reviewing his life before a tough panel of judges with the assistance of a less-than-helpful defense attorney, he meets and falls in love with Julia (Streep).

Daniel must prove he has overcome is fear of living in order to be allowed to be with Julia in the afterlife.
