Gravity!

Yet another astonishing directorial accomplishment from Alfonso Cuaron, who blew me away in 2006 with Children of Men, and now has completely overwhelmed me with Gravity. A film that transcends what cinema can be, taking it to a completely different level. This is an immersive, awe-inspiring, experience filled with heart pounding tension and moments of emotional catharsis in equal measure. Sandra Bullock gives an Oscar worthy performance, carrying the entire film on her back, never hitting a false note. Clooney is also strong in his role, but this is Bullock's film all the way. The cinematography by Emanuel Lubezki is nothing short of extraordinary and some of the best you'll see all year. The visual effects are flawless, sheer perfection, and a feast for the eyes. And the score by Steven Price is the underlying pulse creating sensations not easily captured in cinema these days. If you skip out on seeing this one on the big screen, you'll be doing a huge disservice to yourself. A landmark film, Gravity is a near-masterpiece. Haunting and unforgettable.
