Lovelace

Lackluster Lace

A minor disappoint considering the hugely talented cast involved. It's certainly worth watching if only for Amanda Seyfried's fearless and dedicated performance. Peter Sarsgaard is also great, transcending the cliche-smarmy-abusive-husband role. It's probably his most frightening and scuzz-ball performance since Boys Don't Cry. The real standout is Sharon Stone as Linda's mother. She's nearly unrecognizable and definitely deserves awards attention. The problem with the film however, is that it's basically a lifetime movie, if lifetime could show R-Rated films. It merely skims the surface of Lovelace, and her character turns into nothing more than a cypher. It's not a horrible movie, but a more in depth approach would have been better. Still, it's entertaining enough and well-acted, just far too formulaic and rather shallow. (MPAA R- strong sexual content, nudity, drug use, language, and domestic violence)
