Al-Qaeda pilots have a greater sense of subtlety than the writers of this grandiose remake of the 1962 Gregory Peck film. Scorsese has made some truly contemptible films since his success with the masterful 'Goodfellas', but this near unmitigated disaster really is the most acridly vaudevillian of the lot. Thankfully, though it is hyperbolic and bereft of inspiration, supporting work from Robert Mitchum and Joe Don Baker spare the film from being cast into Scorsese's twilight Gehenna.
Ultimately, the only thing Cape Fear ever really led to was a ravine.
