The Last Exorcism

Predictable yet Novel Formula Piece
Schreck - wrote on 03/29/11

I liked this movie. The skeptical theatrical exorcist revealing the tricks of his trade in a video tell all was a refreshing and novel approach at couching a possessed child piece. I appreciated the humor of the minister demonstrating that his flock did not really listen to his sermon and as such could not critically assess the contents of his spiel.

The subtle progression from harmless humor to mounting terror was reminiscent of Spielberg's "Poltergiest" (the scariest movie ever made).

The film had me hooked even after the minister turned around on the freeway to head back to his predictable demise.

I say this film was predictable, yet novel. It draws the viewer into what seems harmless...the chops you to pieces.
