The Blame-Game Got Sickening

This is not your typical musical where everyone glamorous and sparkly like in "Hairspray." Its oddities made me not hate this movie even though it was slow and, most times, uninvolving. I did like the first few minutes of the film up at until James Gandolfini finished the first song. But after that came a quick downward spiral because none of the characters are all that likeable. They are all at fault regarding the issue that they all try to fix (arguably) but no one seems to acknowledge it. The blame-game got sickening and I just wanted it all to end. It was nice to see Kate Winslet, though, but I must admit that I'm a little biased because I love her in pretty much everything. Casting Mandy Moore was distracting and random but at least she can sing. Susan Sarandon acted well... but her character is just bitter--I felt like she had this thick wall that actively prevented her audience from fully getting to know her. Overall, it was a miss for me which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like it since it has an interesting background story about its distribution.
