Incendies is a tale that weaves past and present as a mother's will instructs her twins to seek out their father and their previously unknown older brother, who was given up to an orphanage despite the mother's pleas to keep her son. Before given up to the orphanage, the son received a line of three dots on the heel of his right foot to identify him. Time and distance could not erase the mother's love for her son and she sets out to try to find him in a country torn apart by war.
