Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire

This was one of the few movies this year that actually deserved it's hype. While the story itself was tragic the movie was surprisingly upbeat. While it seems almost like a cliche, the inner city school teacher reaching out to a girl with problems at home this movie is surprisingly fresh. Mo'Nique certainly deserved her oscar, there is no other actress who could have played this role as perfectly as her. Sidibe on the other hand I found bland, it seems as if her role could have been played by anyone with similar physical characteristics, it's not the character that is so interesting, it is the circumstances surrounding her that draw you in. This movie inspires you to try to reach out and help people, why with the premise it would seem to be overly dramatic it's actually an uplifting tale. Although many of us will never face the type of hardship Precious encounters many of us will in fact try to get lost in a day dream to forget about them, a few of us will spend to long in those day dreams to really poke our heads out and make our lives better.
