I’m really left baffled about this one because I didn't quite feel the story enough. Performances were definitely strong but I guess I wasn't really into it more than I liked to. Tom Cruise did what he could for the role and succeeded in his own right. A lot of people were somewhat troubled with the fact that the supposed Germans were speaking in American dialects. Tom Cruise was awesome using his German tongue in the beginning (not that I know of how to speak it) but then decided to go with his own native all throughout which I don’t complain. Yes it would have been nice if everyone speaks German to make it more authentic but then it would have made it a lot harder to witness every scene when you’re reading subtitles. The high note for me was probably the one and only scene I would remember about this movie (the climactic scene which was an absolute hold your breath kinda thing). There are moments when you might think everything would just be senseless talk but then you really need to listen closely to figure things out. Bryan Singer is no doubt brilliant with his direction but there are just some minor things to complain about this movie. My biggest complain though is probably the pacing. Things were really slow and dragging during the first twenty minutes, it even made me a little sleepy. The fact that I know of how everything was going to end was not that big of an issue really. It just made me curious how von Stauffenberg would deliver the scene. Overall if history and thrill is your thing then Valkyrie may just be the movie for you. Be warned about the pace though.
