Never before in the history of film has a movie like this been seen. And by that I mean that this specific plot with these specific actors has never been done before. In general, "27 Dresses" is yet another sloppily written, poorly acted chick flick that came out in January for a reason.

So here we have Katherine Heigl as Jane Nichols, a woman who has been a bridesmaid for twenty-seven separate weddings, but when she finally finds somebody that she wants to make her a full-fledged bride, she has to deal with the unbearable truth that her sister Tess (Malin Akerman) is dating him. During this whole fiasco, Jane is half-stalked by a journalist, Kevin Doyle (James Marsden), who's fascinated by her history with weddings.

Where do I begin? There were so many aspects of this film that were not done right at all. It tries to be witty, but all the potential wit is destroyed by the wooden acting. Unfortunately, most of the writing isn't witty in the first place, and the acting still doesn't help.

One of the most blatantly obvious problems is that they added a ton of unnecessary language to the dialogue. I figure they were afraid they would get a PG rating if they didn't, and goodness knows PG is a death note for film. I don't understand why writers think language is something people look for in a movie. There have even been studies done that show people would rather watch violent movies filled with sex scenes than movies with constant swearing. Sorry for the rant, but every once in a while a movie comes along that makes me want to ruin lives.

There were a few moments here and there that got me to give a smirk. Not enough to call the movie “good” in any respect, but they didn’t completely mess up. It was also nice to see James Marsden in a leading role for once. He really needs to do that more often.

I understand how the film industry works. They make movies to make money, and I’m perfectly fine with that. I just don’t understand why they have to be so lazy about it 90% of the time. Just because a certain type of movie makes a lot of money doesn’t mean you can put out anything as long as it’s similar and everything will be okay. But they get paid anyway, so what do they care?

In short, “27 Dresses” is just another brick in the wall. Please never ever see it.
