The Ghost and the Darkness

Ghost and Darkness.....#32...........

Such a simple tale really but the direction by Stephen Hopkins and the cinematography by Vilmos Zsigmond (you will be pleasantly surprised by his many works) made this movie a fantastic thriller. Not to be outdone was the lead acting performance by Val Kilmer, whom I always thought was better than he ever got recognition for. This was one of his finest works as he calmly leads this movie as the determined engineer who has to sort out two man-eating lions (given the names in the title of the movie) while attempting to build a bridge in Africa. Micheal Douglas is the famous hunter brought in to help and does a nice job as well in the movie as do Tom Wilkinson in a limited role and both Bernard Hill and John Kani. Based on a true story, this movie certainly delivers the chills and after viewing both "The Ghost" and "The Darkness" on screen you will forever think twice about the king of the jungle......a far cry from Disney's animated Lion King for sure.......
