"Bride of Frankenstein" is probably the best of the Universal Frankenstein films of the 1930's and 1940's. Boris Karloff reprises the role for this film and manages to show a subtle evolution of the character, creating a sympathetic monster who longs for true friendship. Realizing that he will never find companionship among humans, he is encouraged by his creator's decision to make him a female mate. As you can imagine, this doesn't go as well as the monster had hoped.
As always, I monitoired the film for tobacco use. There are several pro-tobacco scenes in the film which teach the monster to associate smoking with friendship. I have written a detailed discussion of this on my website at: http://smokescreeners.org/post/2008/11/12/Bride-of-Frankenstein.aspx. The film earned a SmokeScreeners rating of 4 Butts.
