Could have been great, but wasn't

Roland Emmerich had all the elements for a great movie, or at least a very entertaining one, but let it slip through his fingers.

The story was sound and if it wasn't narrated it may have actually been really good. Instead, the narration was too spelled out which slowed the story. I don't need to be told that someone has died or is dying if I am watching them die. I think it is safe to assume I am not blind when going to a movie. This was my biggest pet peeve with this movie.

The action was good and the characters for the most part were believable. I enjoyed most of the movie because of this aspect, but again I just wish it moved slower. I was also surprised that some of the special effects were a lousy as they were. This is a guy who directed "Day after Tomorrow" and "Independence day" after all. I was expecting some spectacular special effects but it is so-so. Also, if you are expecting film with substantial action to it this is probably not your film. It is more talk and less fight than I anticipated.

I strongly believe that is they take what they have and re-edit it, cut out the narration and knock off about 10 minutes they will have a hit.
