Avatar: The Way of Water

Epic sequel that is long but delivers the goods

There's a great two hour movie stretched out into a good but way too long three hour movie. The plot is actually a bit more interesting than the first movie. But there is a lot of padding that could had been cut out. But I enjoyed the spectacle on display and James Cameron flexing his directing chops when it came to the action scenes.
Some of the child characters are a bit annoying but a couple stand out thanks to the arc they're given. Namely the human boy nicknamed Spider. It's great to see Stephen Lang back as the villainous Colonel Quaritch who's now an avatar himself seeking revenge against Jake Sully and his family. Sam Worthington is more improved as a leading man but he is still out-shined by Zoe Saldana whose emotions just leap off the screen despite her playing a digital character.
The visual effects work and the CGI for the motion-capture is incredible to behold. Don't be fooled by cynical naysayers, it is fabulous to look at and far surpasses the first movie. The aquatic environment is equally stunning and there are scenes that will remain with viewers same as the first movie.
