Hang 'em High

In this western, Clint Eastwood is a vengeful rancher-turned-lawman working with a ruthless judge (Hingle). He’s after the members of a posse that wrongly tried to lynch him. At the same time, as a U. S. Marshal he must dispense justice and bring in troublesome outlaws.
The movie is actually more psychologically complex than expected. The treatment of frontier justice clashing with civilized law and order is an interesting dynamic.
There’s an oddball cast of side characters who make things more amusing. Eastwood and Hingle are good as unlikely allies. Ed Begley is solid as the antagonistic leader of the lynch mob. Bruce Dern has a small but memorable role as a loathsome outlaw.
