This had the potential to be one epic adaption of a modern day scifi classic, but -there always seems to be a but doesn't there?- somewhere something went south with this production. Though sticking somewhat, though not exactly, to the book, it seemed to get really mired down at about mid way, so that by the time that the actual end game comes down at the near end of the film, it's more of a no brainer that what is happening is the actual event, and presented in such a way that, though meant to be a 'stunner', it just isn't, due to it's obviousness. It comes across as anti climatic really. The very end just leaves you wondering where did the story go, and why would they let it go there. It would be a spoiler to say what happens, but then really, nothing actually does. I give it 3 stars for early effort, but like a marathon race, someone got tired towards the end.
