Warm Bodies

Another Romantic Comedy with Zombies?

Twilight is gone, the final Twilight film (until they remake it or reboot it that is, and they almost certainly will at some point) was released last year and I say good riddance.

Sadly though there is recoil when a huge money making franchise play’s its “final chapter.” And in this case the recoil has come in the form of a series of blatant rip-offs that are trying to take its place.

Honestly I haven’t minded the Twilight rip-offs as much as I thought I might, and out of the ones I’ve seen so far Warm Bodies is by far the best. Beautiful Creatures was kind of lame, but it’s only real crime was blatant stupidity. Stupidity is also prevalent in Warm Bodies, but with an incredible level of self awareness. In other words: Warm Bodies is a goofy dumb premise for a movie, but its okay because they aren’t playing it straight. Twilight wasn’t as dumb a premise as Warm Bodies, but it was a million times worse because it acted like it was an epic life changing romance when in reality it was a steaming turd. Warm Bodies isn’t really a rip-off of Twilight, It’s a parody, a parody that has some surprisingly genuine touches of romance in it.

If you like Romantic comedies, Zombie movies or Shaun of the Dead (the closest comparable title in my opinion.) Just don’t expect it to be as violent or clever as Shaun of the dead or as giant and romantic as Twilight. I say it’s a good mix of all of the above.
