Shutter #2: Overexposed

Big surprise: another bad U.S. remake of a great J-Horror film.

Like "The Grudge", "Shutter" takes the American stars to Japan to revisit the story of the original. Can spirits not be vengeful right here in the States? Hasn't the most successful remake been "The Ring", and its story was transported back here?

And I'm not sure of their respective ratings, but this version seems toned-down for a PG13. That causes a couple of the most gripping (yet gory) scenes to be removed. So the danger is lessened and seems more silly. And it's funny, this "Shutter" actually adds a couple of murders that are only spoken of in the original, yet the overall movie is still too tame.

I think it's time filmmakers realized that two different cultures exist. What's scary for us may be quite different for Japan, Korea, etc. I'm not saying all J-Horror films are great; in fact, many of them are boring to me. But if we can't be original, why don't we take just the general idea and rework it for our sensibilities?

Skin Rating = .5 (out of 4). If you're going to feature such a nice-looking, yet horrible actor as Pacey... I mean Joshua Jackson, you've GOT to be a little more generous with the skin! Is his chest hideously-scarred or something?
