"When you love someone you should be unselfish enough to give them whatever they want."

Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) is also a successful divorce attorney who spends most of her nights alone in her apartment eating junk food and watching the Weather Channel. While taking on a major divorce case she meets her new opposing attorney, the disheveled and charming Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) recently transplanted to New York City who has never lost a case.

The two don't hit it off too well but their jobs force them into a business dinner where they end up having too much to drink and end up spending the night together. Audrey blames the booze but Daniel seems to want a relationship although she resists. Soon the New York media has a spotlight on the two most powerful divorce attorneys who seem to be having their own private fights behind the scenes.

After time passes another big divorce case pops up and both clients want possession of their castle in Ireland so the two lawyers fly off to Ireland to check out the castle and interview the help but after another night of drinking they wake up and discover that they are now married. Afraid of what the press will say and Daniel moves into the home of Audrey but maintain separate bedrooms. Slowly she starts to feel warmer towards him but one day in court he blurts out something that she confined in him and this makes her furious and so she demands a divorce.

The plot is predictable, but it isn't half bad. The supporting is great, from Michael Sheen as the philandering rock star Thorne Jamison, Parker Posey as the designer Serena, Francis Fisher as Julianne Moore's hip mother, to the locals in the Irish village.
