An escapee from the MIB's maximum security lunar prison goes back in time to kill Agent K before he can implement the Earth defence system, so J must return to 1969 to foil his plan and save his partner's life. After the rather sorry, imagination-devoid exercise in cash cow milking that was Men In Black 2 I was not harbouring much hope for yet another sequel, but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The retro setting works really well (I loved the way the contemporary aliens were very much in the 50s B-movie style) and the Mad Men-esque style complimented their escapades at Cape Canaveral and Andy Warhol's The Factory really nicely. Josh Brolin is also uncanny in the part of a younger Tommy Lee Jones and his partnership with Will Smith rekindles the chemistry of the first film really well. I think it would've been better if Jemaine Clement were allowed to camp it up a little more and the jokes are a little hit and miss (I literally cringed at the sight of Emma Thompson reciting a particularly cheap gag near the start of the film) but although the script is not quite as funny as it could've been, the time travel element and Mark Stuhlbarg's quirky 5th dimensional being gives MIB 3 enough kooky charm to win through.
