There Will Be Blood

...You Will Be Bored

I can't help but think this movie had just enough political undertone and drama to make sure Daniel Day-Lewis finally got an Oscar nod for his body of work. Nothing more... This story was rediculously boring. The whole thing hinges on the fact that you care about the people Daniel is alienating... They were just as quirky and consumed with themselves as Mr Fletcher himself though. I've never cared so little about central characters in a movie getting capped.

I've also seen way too many movies about someone being so involved with their own wealth that they spiral into insanity and alienate the ones you'd expect them to love unconditionally. It's a cliche plot now. Am I supposed to care more about this one because the number of CNN reports on oil prices rivals where Britney Spears is checked into this week?

The dialouge was only interesting because Daniel Day-Lewis made the character and voice his own. Best Screenplay, Directing, and (most of all) Picture were undeserved nominations for this film even though I am sure Paul Thomas Anderson will one day have his moment in the spotlight. Films are supposed to be entertaining... Paul made me wish I was one of Daniel Fletcher's victims after two hours.

I give this movie 2 out of a possible 4 uncomfortable references to what super long straws can do to my milkshake.
