There Will Be Blood

The Greed of Oil is Obvious

Daniel Day-Lewis amazes me every time he is on screen. Again, he prevails as the best actor over the last year (though his "Gangs" performance is better). He can transform himself into anyone and maintain character throughout. My favorite scene in which he steals the show, is the bowling alley scene (though it's not the best scene in the movie).

The entire movie is filled with landscapes and filled with great performances by both his kid and the young man who makes him rich. Though maybe non of this film is truthful of real life, it felt like it was. PTA has created a real man and a real experience.

It did move a little slow (though I never complained) and for the first time ever I actually checked my watch hoping that there were still 2 plus hours left of the movie. I felt cold when the characters felt cold. I felt wealthy when the characters became wealthy. There is no true downfall to this movie other than the lack of an incredible musical score. Yeah, it was there, but it was not great. It neither took away nor added to the movie. With all of the silence, I felt it could of added a great deal - propelling this movie into one of the greatest of all time.

So, why do I not think this is the best picture of the year? Upon first viewing, I feel that a few others were an overall more pleasant experience. With them, I felt amazed afterwards. With this movie I was amazed, but didn't feel it. My guess is that upon second viewing, it will be an even better movie.
