Surprisingly entertaining musical - it doesn't take itself seriously at all - which actually works in its favor - a bit manufactured, but the over-the-top nature of the 80s hairband/power ballads just fits right in with the over-bright theatrics.
I can't have my review up until Friday, but I can say that this is one film I went into with pretty minimal expectations and left with a whole different perspective. The trailer does not do the film justice - so if you're a fan of the 80s, and don't mind a bit of cheese, this should do the trick. It's not going to join the ranks of West Side Story, The Sound of Music or Fiddler on the Roof but as pure entertainment, you couldn't ask for much more. |

Thanks for instilling some interest in me, Chris. I actually forgot about this one, but I agree that it does look like some fun cheese. And the fact that I already know all the songs going in might add to the fun. |

Unsurprisingly I got an update today that the soundtrack made it #1 on the soundtrack, indie and hard rock charts and #15 overall on the billboard top 200 - who knew how well Tom Cruise could rock out?
