It's nothing at all like 'Twilight'. They are both completely different stories. I don't know why people are making that assumption. No vampires, no werewolves and no irritatingly stupid romance. The 'Hunger Games' story is light years better and not restricted to just one demographic. ANYONE can enjoy this book. I'm not going to proclaim that the movie will be great, without having seen it, but the source material is so strong that there is no way it could be less than entertaining.

I started reading 'The Hunger Games' novel yesterday and just finished a couple of hours ago. That's the fastest I've ever finished a book. I just could not put it down, especially once the 'Games' started. I'm more than excited to see the movie now. When I watch the trailer now, after having read the book, I find it to be a good representation of the story and the actors seem to fit the characters. I can easily see Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in their roles, just from having seen most of their previous films. Can't wait to watch and give my review!

I was fully expecting this to be a complete ripoff of Battle Royale, but after getting through the first book I can see the similarities but I can also see why the book is so insanely popular as well.I have say I can see why there has been somewhat of an uproar over the casting of Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in the two lead roles (Liam Hemsworth seems a better choice for the third in the triangle) - while I have great faith in them as actors, they don't fit the descriptions too well - but then again, there are always liberties taken when adapting a novel.Despite the lack of love interest in the first book, I can see where this is going and why the Twilight crowd is eating this up as well. The characters are the right age and once again thrown into this dystopian future world filled with tragedy yet manage to survive the odds and, I'm going out on a limb here - change the system for the better. Hunger Games will never be confused with War and Peace or The Grapes of Wrath but it does have interesting and memorable characters and a story that compels you read it all in one sitting. If the film can capture that spirit, I have no doubt it will be a hit on par with Twilight or Harry Potter in terms of popularity.
