One great song and an interesting choice of animation. That's about all the positive I can give to this phoned in Disney flick. |

The plot is pretty historically inaccurate and slow-paced, but the music is the real star of the show and I think some of Disney's best songs are featured in the film. |

I know Disney likes to mess with history, but maybe they should have left well enough alone. As long as you aren't looking for a history lesson, I guess this is enjoyable enough. The songs and characters aren't outstanding, but Disney has produced worse. |

Beautiful Songs, Tedious Film |
|
Underwhelming. That was my first thought after finishing Pocahontas. Granted, my expectations may have been a bit high, but this IS renaissance Disney after all. Frankly, Pocahontas is not one of Disney's greats, or even one of their goods. It's a mediocre film with some marvelous musical numbers placed between uninteresting filler.
Loosely based off of the real story of Pocahontas, this romance is formula, formula, formula. Pocahontas is forced to marry an unwanted suitor. She falls in love with a forbidden man. In this case, that man is John Smith. John Smith, being European, and known for killing savages, is of course, initially opposed by the tribe Pocahontas comes from. But John Smith comes to understand the Indians as intelligent and resourceful people, though the villainous Gove... |

Will eventually be a Disney classic |
|
'Pocahontas' is far from being my favorite movie from Disney, but it is cool anyway. Pocahontas is the daughter of a Native American tribe chief. She is a free spirited and a beautiful young woman, and she knows every little place and creature in the forest she lives. She also has a big taste for adrenaline and for adventures, what makes her father worried as well her best girl friend. One day,her father promises Kocoum,a brave warrior from the tribe, that he will marry Pocahontas; she does not stay happy, specially because Kocoum is not a very charismatic guy. One day, walking in the forest with her two best animal friends Flit and Meeko,Pocahontas accidentally meets John Smith.
While it's not the best Disney film on record, it is still a very good movie. |
