The Pang Bros. have made some good horror films, but The Messengers, despite some good scenes, gets lost in the mix of generic horror released lately. There is a nice twist in the end, but can't make up an otherwise lackluster movie. |

The Messengers |
|
The Messengers is an OK thriller that basically does everything you've seen before if this type of movie. Scares come often enough, they're cheap, but still affective. The cast does their best, but the movie is badly cliqued and there's nothing new here. |

Oh gad! Sooooooo typical! |

Hey there horror drudgees! Have you been good? If you haven't then "the Messengers" has just the ripe punishment for you: you must move to an isolated old house in the middle of farm country.
Just imagine your bad, naughty self all shacked up in the Psycho house- wait, did you just see a white eyed ghoul crawling down your new ceiling from the reflection of your child's cereal spoon?!? Oh schnaps!
Don't go outside or about a billion crowes will peck your face off. That, and they'll also eat all the seeds for your new sunflower business. That's right! Your bum deserves so much of a whack due to your naughtiness that you must also persevere through a small sunflower business venture! Ahhhhhhhh! |

It wasn't as bad as critics made it out to be. There were some real chilling moments in this film, such as the hallway scene, where the main character carries her baby brother, facing away from a Samara-like ghost as it approaches them. That scene lasted about two to three minutes but it was really spine-tingling. Sure, there were bad dialogue and a dragged out beginning but it's not to the point where it's unwatchable. The crows here reminded me of the crows in "Jeepers Creepers" and the seagulls in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." I'm also glad that the "real" villain of the film was revealed in the end. If it's just the ghosts that the family has to fight, that would've been trite. At least it tried to stand out of the pack. |
