House of Sand and Fog is a smoldering battle between too strong characters, solidly played by Sir Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. The film occasionally feels too dour and dark, but the intense acting is what makes each scene intriguing to watch.

A good film, but a bit presumptuous for my taste. Much of the plot is just constantly dark and constantly heavy, with very little to redeem the characters at all. Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly pull in wonderful performances, but filmmaker Vadim Perelman did little to lighten the characters up, as well as the film, which hurt it in the end, I believe. There is such a thing as too much drama.
