Teenage girl asks to meet with a pedophile who's been trying to seduce her on the Internet. He weaves his web on the "unsuspecting" girl and they go to his house after the initial meeting. They have drinks together and he wakes up secured to a chair. The plot follows the interactions of the two people as he tries to wiggle out of whatever she has planned for him. The characters are shown as more complex than the usual knee-jerk shallow treatment given to stories of prey and predator. Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson take us down paths that twist unexpectedly. This is a thought-provoker rather than a good guy-bad guy experience. Not for everyone, of course, but I recommend it. |

if you are a teenager (mentally) this is your fantasy on the screen,
you are glorified and still you are able to be cruel,
and of course your victim is stupid so you will look smart |

Insane twisted film, but totally satisfying. Ellen Page, as always, is utterly extravagant as she lures and tortures a creepy pedophile (rightfully, of course). She proves she's ahead of her time, as she did the more recent "Inception". Her tactics are eerily grown up and skilled; flawless! Really puts the viewer on the edge of their seat. It is a little unfair though, as the pedophile never even stood a chance. :D |

Paedophilia has always been a thorny subject. How can you justify the actions of people who prey on the most innocent and vulnerable members of society purely for their own sexual gratification? You can't. But does that give that society the right to act out of vengeance rather than justice...? With many similarities to the work of Chan-Wook Park, this film could be thought of as "Sympathy For Miss Vengeance". Ellen Page takes justice into her own hands as a fourteen year old who has been "groomed" by a thirty-something man over the internet, but the script cleverly makes the audience never quite sure who is "good" guy and who is the "bad" guy. Disturbing subject!! Fantastic Movie!! |

Never heard about it while in theaters, so I was a late comer and saw it on the internet tonight because of some of the comments on this website.. At first I found it very disturbing,and just wasn't sure how I felt about it. The very end helped when Jeff asked Hayle twice who she was. From her answer I put kind of a spiritual angle to it. Kind of like a highway to heaven avenging angel type thing. When the film was over I said to myself, well, not great, but good---I gave it 3 of 4 stars. Throughout the next couple of hours I was aware of a strange thing----I could not get this movie out of my mind. It nagged at me. Couldn't say why. What I liked most was just the incredible acting of Ellen Page as Hayley.She deserved an Oscar for her portrayal. This movie is like a good piece of music.... |
