Plot Outline:
|
A failed inventor brings how a new fuzzy pet for his son - but don't him wet, feed him after midnight and especially keep him away from bright light. When the rules are inevitably broken, something much more sinister is released.

A good, but not great 80's film. I really enjoyed the effects, and Gizmo has to be the most adorable movie creature ever. I love how early 80's kids' movies had to have some sort of message at the end of the film. I prefer modern movies, with no message. I'm not sure it's quite as good as some would make it out to be, but if you have nothing to do on a Saturday night, get this. |

I wouldn't quite classify this as a horror film, as it's got a lot of black comedy sprinkled throughout, but it is a fun fantasy film with great practical effects. Who doesn't love Gizmo? |

A young boy receives a cuddly little creature for Christmas but it inadvertently spawns a horde of vicious creatures hell bent on chaos. Gremlins is what would happen if the muppets went over to the dark side. A comic horror from Joe Dante, it was a bit of a cult in the 80s and went on to spawn a host of inferior imitators. The idea is pretty simple, that the "gremlins" of myth were in fact real, but it has plenty of scope for slapstick carnage and it comes up with some memorable scenes when they are initially loosed upon the sleepy little town. The funniest scenes are when mom gets medieval on their asses with a variety of kitchen appliances (before getting attacked by a Christmas tree in an homage to John Waters) and the turbo charged stairlift.
