This movie had a chance. The acting is horrible. I thought Hirsch had talent and I was wrong. I liked the plot and the quirky nature of the movie but just couldn't get over the simplicity. The ending was also a bit of a cop out. Worth a rent if you have seen most everything else. |

Nothing spectacular about this movie, the story-line was pretty good, a Hit man hired to kill a mother by her children and husband who gets caught up in some drama. Something was missing, whether it was the acting or characters in whole or the writing or the location/directing i couldn't quite put my finger on it. Really depending on your personal preference you could like this movie or hate it, it will not be anybody's favorite movie but it is something you can get dragged in to and get your attention, hoping something happens. The ending was very unpredictable though, probably the best part of the movie was the ending, i will not give it away but i did like the ending. |

You will never look at a chicken drum stick the same away again after watching this movie. id say one of the most dodgy scenes in cinema.
its a sleazy violent and quite disturbing in some ways movie about a guy who hires Joe ( matthew mcConaughhey) to kill his mother for the insurance money. aided by his father and his dodgy wife and his strange sister.
it was good to see matthew playing a dark role for which he is great as the psychotic sadistic killer. its dark deadly and creepy and has a decent twist before it ends , though all too soon for my liking . but still a good movie well worth watching, if your into the darker side of cinema. with a unusual storyline. |

A Dark, Dark Film |
|
Here's the dilemma of "Killer Joe" for me: it's a well-made and often very engrossing and tense film, and, yet, I couldn't get past the deplorable characters made to do even more deplorable things. William Friedkin has a knack for directing dysfunctional and out-of-control characters with a flair for the dramatic. Sometimes it works (as in the incredible and classic French Connection) and sometimes it doesn't (as in Friedkin's previous film, Bug, which is laughably bad.) I suspect that "Killer Joe" will work for a lot of people who will recognize its artistic merit, but, for me, not having any moral center to grasp onto, I left the film feeling empty. The performances are fantastic, and all the actors can be praised for fleshing out some interesting acting choices. Matthew McConaughe... |

Review: Killer Joe |
|
Killer Joe is exactly what it wants to be: dark, vicious, and violent, but I get the feeling that it could have been a lot better. Matthew McConaughey delivers the performance of his career as the sadistic, twisted, wants-things-done-his-way "Killer" Joe Cooper. Director William Friedkin, who made the overrated The Exorcist (yeah, I said it), stages two intense sequences of pure evil and violence, which is why the movie got an NC-17 rating. One of these moments include the 25-minute climax, which is nothing short of tremendous. Friedkin successfully injects plenty of suspense in the scenes involving "Killer" Joe, which makes for a mostly enjoyable and nail-bitingly tense watch. Unfortunately, I didn't really care much about the supporting characters. To me, they were just a group of moron... |
