Provided you like violence for violence sake, this is the film for you. Over-the-top gore and cheesy lines come fast and furious. Rutger Hauer was a perfect casting choice, I must say, and really helps capture that grindhouse spirit. Terrible, but in a good way. |

Where recent throwbacks to this beloved sub-genre of film were simple homages that just went over-the-top for the sake of it, this one IS a straight up grindhouse film. It works perfectly as it's own unique vigilante gore film. The transition from fake trailer to feature film turned out great. Better than 'Machete'. Lots of fun! |

Hobo With a Shotgun |
|
The winner of the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez SXSW Grindhouse Trailer Competition, "Hobo With a Shotgun" was transformed into a full-length horror thriller that won accolades as a double-barrelled killer of a film. Rutger Hauer stars as a hobo looking to start a new life by saving money to buy a lawn mower. But he finds himself in a new city run by a psychopathic crime boss, his two sadistic murderous sons and a corrupt police force. There's so much violence around him that the Hobo gets a shotgun and, instead of mowing lawns, mows down the bad guys in an effort to clean things up. This boodbath of a movie gives new meaning to the word gore. Forget your 'Saws' and 'Hostels,' this is the real deal -- and it's got a sense of humor to boot. Hauer is perfectly low-key as a man who ... |

Hobo with a Shotgun is a bloody good time |
|
He's a guardian angel walking the streets, a vicious protector of the weak and innocent. He is the hobo with a shotgun. He is Rutger Hauer. Hobo with a Shotgun is the story of... well, the title pretty much says it all. Bad guys led by a enjoyably psychotic gang lord named Drake dominate the unnamed city that is the setting of the movie. Drake and his two equally messed up offspring, Slick and Ivan, terrorize the people of this tortured city uncontested until the arrival of Hauer's Hobo, intent on using his saved nickels and dimes to buy a rusty old lawnmower that will surly start him on a honest, rewarding career. Sadly for Mr. Hobo, destiny has other plans, and our hero uses his mower money to purchase a old pump action shotgun with the intent of cleaning up the city. Along the way he i... |
